Message from the Registrar

Section 75 of the Supreme Court of Judicature Act, Cap 117A established a unified and distinct service known as “the Court Service” which plays a critical role in facilitating the efficient functioning of the courts of this Island. The “Court Service” is a distinct branch of the Registration Department headed by the Registrar of the Supreme Court. It supports the work of the Judiciary by providing trained and competent personnel to assist our Judges and Magistrates in the conduct of court proceedings. It is also responsible for the service of legal process, the scheduling of matters before judicial officers, the enforcement of court orders and for the filing, receipt, safe-keeping and maintenance of legal documents and official records so critical to the efficient conduct of legal proceedings in the several courts of this Island.

The establishment of our website and our presence on the Internet is one of the practical and relatively inexpensive ways in which the Judiciary and the staff of the Registration Department as a whole can provide litigants, Attorneys-at-law and Barbadians in general with useful information about our many-faceted operations. Our presence on the internet indicates the willingness of the Registration Department and the Judiciary to fully embrace the new technologies and business facilitation modalities which are transforming the way in which Courts the world over, now conduct business.

On behalf of the staff of the Registration Department, I am pleased to welcome you to our newly designed web site and hope that you will find it informative and a useful guide to understanding the many and various services that we offer in addition to the numerous working procedures, Practice Directions and policies employed in the processing of applications filed with us.

The web site is currently a work in progress and will remain so for some time. There will be future upgrades and improvements which will facilitate among others, innovations such as the e-filing of court documents and applications in accordance with Rules of Court and Practice Directions.

We welcome your helpful suggestions for future improvements to this web site and to our services as a whole.

Registrar of the Supreme Court
