The Supreme Court Registry

The Supreme Court Registry is the court office for the Supreme Court. Court documents are filed and processed in the court registries of the Court of Appeal and the High Court respectively. The Supreme Court Registry is a unit or division of the unified and distinct department of the Registration Office referred to as “the Court Service” headed by the Registrar of the Supreme Court. The Registrar is assisted by 2 Deputy Registrars, an Assistant Registrar, the Chief Marshal and the Court Administrator.

The Supreme Court Registry is the ‘engine room’ of the Supreme Court. It supports the work of the Supreme Court judiciary by managing all cases filed in the Court of Appeal and the High Court from filing to disposition. It is responsible for the receipt, transmission and custody of documents filed in the Registry and is the conduit for the flow of information between the Court and the parties before it.

The Supreme Court Registry also functions as a sub-registry of the Caribbean Court of Justice. Under the Caribbean Court of Justice (Appellate Jurisdiction) Rules, 2005 the Registrar of the Supreme Court functions as the ‘proper officer’ and under the Caribbean Court of Justice (Original Jurisdiction) Rules, 2006, as a “local deputy registrar” of the Caribbean Court of Justice. Under these Rules, the Registrar is responsible for the receipt, transmission and custody of documents filed in the sub-Registry whether in the original or appellate jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice.
